James Thurman (Jimmy) Ball

James Thurman Ball, lovingly known as "Jimmy," passed away on  April 11, 2025, at Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, Tennessee, at the age of 72. He was born on October 29, 1952, in Washington County, Virginia, to the late Thurman Theola Ball and Edith Marie Blackwell Ball. Jimmy made significant contributions to both his community and his family throughout his life.

Jimmy dedicated over 42 years to his career as the owner and operator of Jimmy Ball Construction/Roofing, where his passion for quality work shone through in every project he undertook. He was proud of his roots, having been raised on a farm, which instilled in him a deep appreciation for all aspects of farming.

A graduate of Patrick Henry High School in 1971, Jimmy carried the values of hard work and dedication with him throughout his life. In 1972, he answered the call of duty when he was drafted into the United States Army, serving at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. His military service reflected his commitment to his country and the principles he held dear.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Jimmy was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves, and he cherished many moments spent cheering for his teams.

Jimmy was a proud member of the Macedonia Church of Christ, where he fostered relationships with fellow church members and contributed to the community around him.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his son, Jarrod Ball.

He is survived by his siblings: Shirley Marsh and her husband Dean, Judy Smith and her husband Robby, Jerry Ball and his wife Evelyn, and Mark Ball. He also leaves behind three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, who will remember him for his warmth, guidance, and the love he shared throughout his life.

The family would like to express their appreciation to  Abingdon Health and Rehab, Johnston Memorial Hospital, Bristol Regional Hospital and Ballad Hospice House for the care they provided to Jimmy during his illness.

Private services are being held to honor the life of Jimmy Ball. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NC 10306.
