Abingdon, Va. - James Edmond Cook, age, 74, went home to live peacefully with the Lord on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at his home after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on May 21, 1948, to the late Irving and Gaynell Cook of Lebanon, Va.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Denise (Denny) and two children Teri Cook of Abingdon and Kristen Cook of Kingsport, TN., two brothers Kenneth of Smith Mountain Lake and Gary of Abingdon, his beloved aunt Wilma Snuffer of Christiansburg and his dear cousin and lifelong friend Cindy DeHart of Charlotte, NC. Jim dearly loved his many dogs and grand dogs over the years, and they were often the highlight of his days.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara of Hillsville, Va.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He graduated from the Mercer School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, GA. Jim was a very respected and caring pharmacist at Jessee’s Drug Store in Lebanon, Revco in Lebanon and Cumberland Drug in Pennington Gap.
A ceremony in his honor will be held at Farris Funeral Service and Crematory, Forest Hills location at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, with Rev. Barbara Farmer and Rev. Dale Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Todd Cook, Younes Cherkaoui, Cory Stock, Kurt Dooley, Scott Dooley and Jerry Witt will serve as pallbearers. Michael Pruitt and Charles Hargis will serve as honorary bearers. The family will receive friends in the Chapel from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Humane Society of the U.S., 1255 23rd Street, N.W., Suite 450, Washington, D.C. 20037.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who helped Jim on his final journey, Dr. Bruce Higinbothom and the MSA Hospice caregivers, especially Carrie, Gabby, and Jeneane and to Kathy Jones for her loving care over the years.
