James Cornet Rasnake, 87, of Abingdon, Va., passed away peacefully October 11, 2017 with family and friends at his side. He was born July 6, 1930 in Judge, Va., on Frying Pan Creek in Dickenson County, son of the late Will J. and Maggie Owens Rasnake. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Sutherland Rasnake, five years ago on October 11.
Sgt. First Class James C. Rasnake (Ret., United States Army) served in the Korean War and was honored in a special ceremony in Washington, D.C. and awarded the Bronze Star on Veteran’s Day 2011. He was retired from Pittston Coal Company after 35 years of service. He was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, Chapter 57 of Disabled American Veterans, Jericho Shrine and the Abingdon Masonic Lodge Number 48.
He is survived by his daughter, Angie Rasnake of Abingdon, Va; granddaughter, Kasey Hagie of Denver, Colorado; great-grandsons, Trippton and Phoenix Hagie; grandson-in-law Kevin Hagie of Denver; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, followed by the service at 7 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon. Pastor Don Stacy will be officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Army at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be sent to the Shriners Hospital for Children (www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/donate).
