James D. "Jimmy" Gillenwater, Jr., age 37, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at his residence. He was born on Christmas Day 1983 to James D. "Jim" Gillenwater, Sr. and Constance Scyphers "Connie" Gillenwater in Bristol, Tenn. He was the President of Abingdon Propane Exchange, Inc. and was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
Jimmy will be remembered for his work ethic, adventurous spirit, and loving heart. He was a good friend to all and never judged. Jimmy saw the good in everyone and his daughter, Madison, was the light of his world. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Darwin Gillenwater and Virginia Cline Gillenwater; and maternal grandparents, Eugene Scyphers and Dorothy Hawkins Scyphers.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is also survived by his wife, Krystina Gillenwater of Oakwood, Va.; daughter, Madison Brooke Gillenwater; two sisters, Virginia Gillenwater “Ginger” St. John and husband, Todd, of Abingdon, Va. and Rebecca Gillenwater Thompson and husband, Erik, of Abingdon, Va.; godfather, Michael Gibson; godmother, Linda Scyphers Hartsock; two nieces, Olivia Thompson and Mary Cline Thompson; two nephews, Stephen St. John, Jr. and Luke St. John; special family friends, Bruce Moretz and Bobbie Moretz; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
A funeral ceremony will be held at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Va. 24210, on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Farmer and Rev. Dale Gilbert officiating. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Todd St. John, Erik Thompson, Jacob Scyphers, Brian Denton, Luke Patterson, and Poe Noonkester will serve as pallbearers. Employees of Abingdon Propane Exchange, Inc. will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the church.
