Abingdon, VA Mr. James Earnest Osborne, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Abingdon Health and Rehab. He was employed for 36 years with HAPCO. During his 16 years of retirement, Jim enjoyed working in his yard and also loved working on his Chevrolet S-10; he was known as the “S-10 Man.” He frequently visited local flea markets and had never met a stranger. One of his hobbies was hand-making belt buckles and bolo ties to give to his friends and church family. Jim was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, now known as Christ Church at Meadowview. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Love Osborne and Susan Ruth Shupe Osborne. Jim is survived by his wife, Louella Osborne; daughter Susan Osborne of Black Mountain, NC; sister Martha Edna Lee Shelton and husband Bud of Chilhowie; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral service for Jim Osborne will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Christ Church at Meadowview (formerly Mt. Carmel Christian Church) with Minister Michael S. McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Raymond Shepard, Jesse Staton, Robert Lane, Frank Merryman, Benny Repass, Brad Shepard, and Tim Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be William Young, Ernie Gobble, Bill Shelton, Scott Shelton, and Lester Shelton. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:30 – 3:00 at the church. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Abingdon Health and Rehab for the love and care they showed during Jim’s stay at their facility.
