Bristol, VA Mr. James Garland “Jim” Johnson, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2015, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born in Castlewood, Virginia and graduated from Castlewood High School. Jim was employed by Enterprise Black Diamond for 27 years and was a farmer his entire life. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nat Johnson and Pearl Austin Johnson; his sisters Lorraine Johnson, Mary Ellen Johnson and Irene Johnson; brother, Stanford Johnson; and sister-in-law Lucille Johnson. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Marshall Johnson; daughters Cloe Eva Barker and husband Jack, and Janie Miller; son Jimmy Johnson; a special friend who was like a son, Dave Keene; brothers Elmer Johnson, Raymond “Tene” Johnson, Marvin Johnson and wife Sarah, and Bill Johnson; sisters Elaine Helbert and husband Marvin, Sandra Dorton and husband Russell, and Marie Salyers and husband Donald; sister-in-law Martha Johnson; four grandchildren whom he dearly loved, LeAnne Barker, Katie Barker, Samantha Johnson and Brianna Mitchell;and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer special thanks to Wellmont Hospice team, Dr. Alton Blow, Jr., Dr. Rick Whiles, and Dr. Joseph Herman of Johns Hopkins Medical Center. The funeral service for Jim Johnson will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Roger Ball and Larry Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., prior to the service. The committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be Dave Keene, Hunter Stewart, Wilkie Welch, Steve Johnson, Derek Duckett, Zach Cox, Don Davis and Anthony Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Meade, Herb Hensley and Bobby Hutton.
