Abingdon, VA – Dr. James H. Beaver, age 84, left this earth to receive his Heavenly Reward on Friday, February 3, 2017, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict during which time he earned three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, and spent over two years as a Prisoner of War. After his military service, Jim became a minister and served as Bishop of the Nortonsville, Franklin, Trigg Street, South Boston, Penn Forest, and Bastion Churches of God. In recent years Jim attended First Christian Church in Abingdon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hobert Beaver and Dacy Kiser Neece, and brother, Hobart Beaver, Jr.
A committed and loving family man, Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gladys Herndon Beaver; daughter, Robin Pruette and husband Bill of Columbia, SC; and two grandsons, Cameron Pruette of York, SC and Nathan Pruette of Columbia, SC.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Bishop Michael Collins officiating at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post #6975 and the Virginia Army National Gaurd. Jim will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
