Mr. James Howard Blevins, Sr. age 91, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of this area, son of the late James Clayborne Blevins and Laura Sifers Blevins. Mr. Blevins served in the United States Army during World War II and was a proud member of VFW Post 6975. He worked as a truck driver from 1946 â?? 1981 and was a member of the Teamster's Union. Mr. Blevins had been a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and State Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and football and was a famous follower of the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Peggy C. Blevins; one son, James (Jim) Howard Blevins, Jr. and wife Dale of Elizabethton, TN; two daughters: Wanda Saul and husband Curtis of Abingdon, and Melissa Fawcett of Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Albert (Al) Blevins of Marion, VA; five grandchildren: JD Morris and wife Tammy of Bristol, TN; Howard Morris and wife Faye of Bristol, VA; Tammy Karamarinov and husband Miro of Florida; Terri Hamby of Colorado Springs, CO; and Shannon Saul of Bristol, TN; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for James Howard Blevins, Sr. will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2010, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Jane W. Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. â?? 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday. The committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military rites offered by Highlands Fellowship Veteran Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Owens, Lawrence Reeves, Bill Huber and Frank Hamilton.
