James Michael “Mike” Browning, age 73, of Brumley Gap, Virginia, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at Holston Valley Medical Center. Mike was born on September 18, 1948, in Scottsburg, Indiana to the late John William Browning and Norma Lee Bowling Browning.
He was a retired farmer and an employee of Abingdon Equipment in Abingdon, Virginia. Mike was a guitar player at his parents’ Country Music Barn in Commiskey, Indiana until he left Indiana to try to work in the coal business. He was also a private pilot.
Mike met his wife, Deborah Lynn Clayton, in Hazard, Kentucky in December of 1978; shortly after, they were married on September 14, 1979. Deborah and Mike were best friends and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Florida as well as visiting friends in England and Scotland. Mike loved to talk and had many friends everywhere he went.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Mike is survived by his two sons, John Michael Browning, and Christopher Michael Browning (Lena); and his daughter, Eugenia Marie Johnson (Jason); three granddaughters; one grandson; one great granddaughter; and two great grandsons.
A memorial service will be scheduled at later date.
