James Robert Nelson, age 66, passed away at his home on Tuesday February 28, 2017. James was a native of Washington County, VA and was a graduate of Abingdon High School. He also attended Virginia Highlands Community College. He was a lifelong farmer and was most happy when he was working on his tractor. James was “at home” with his cup of tea, cookies and a science fiction novel in his hands.
James was predeceased by his parents Harry and Hazel Nelson. He is survived by his brothers Lewis Douglas Nelson of Abingdon and Eugene Nelson of Chilhowie; his sisters Virginia Martin of Bristol, VA, Anita Nelson of Abingdon and Teresa McCracken and husband Jerry of Abingdon; nieces Misty Martin and Ashley Nelson.
A graveside service for James Robert Nelson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday March 3, 2017 in the Rhudy Cemetery; located in the Denton’s Valley Section of Washington County, VA. Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. will officiate.
