James W. "Jim" Moncrief
March 5, 1943 — July 30, 2021
Bristol, Va. - James W. “Jim” Moncrief, age 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by his children. He was born March 5, 1943, in Ducktown, Tennessee, to the late J. B. and Helen Otting Moncrief.
Jim was an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church before proudly serving his country as a submariner with the United Sates Navy. Jim had a lengthy career in the heavy truck and transportation industry, holding various management and executive positions with Campbell Motors and later the Campbell Corporation. Jim also helped expand Truck City Parts into the region, managing the Bristol, Virginia and Morristown, Tennessee locations. Jim most recently worked for Roger’s Trucking, from which he retired as Safety Director.
Jim loved his Lord and his family. He was the dedicated caregiver for his wife during the years of her illness. He was a man of character and high moral values who always put the needs of others before himself, and as a result created in his household a culture of giving and providing for those less fortunate than himself.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Gaye Ruth Campbell Moncrief; daughter, April Dawn Moncrief; and sister Martha Seeger.
He is survived by son, Jameson Moncrief; daughter Christa Joy Johnston (Alex); and ten grandchildren, Corey Hubbard, Autumn Moncrief, Jasper, Xander, Ender, Esther, Archer, Fletcher, and Ember, and Amara.
A funeral service will be held in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service (19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210) at 12:00 Noon, Monday, August 2, 2021, with Rev. Charles DeBord officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with military honors provided by the United States Navy and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard.
