James Walter “Tiny” Helton, Jr., age 87, of Glade Spring Virginia, went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a farmer who unconditionally loved his family. Tiny also gave many years of service to Emory & Henry College's custodial department. He loved his grandchildren and two great grandchildren with all of his heart. Tiny was an avid fan of baseball, John Wayne, and good Southern food. He was an early riser, incredibly punctual, and he expected others to follow suit. He was a good man who lived an admirably simple life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martha South Helton and James Walter Helton, Sr.; his son, George Helton; three brothers, Charles Helton, John Helton, and Roy Helton; and two sisters, Carrie Lamie and Margaret Harris.
Tiny is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bessie Kestner Helton; his son, Jimmy Helton and wife Frances Helton; two grandchildren, Janet Bridgeman and husband William Bridgeman, and Brandi Rackowski and husband Joe Rackowski; great grandchildren, Keith Owens and Cora Belle Bridgeman.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at The Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Linda Helton officiating.
