James William "J.W." McVey, 76, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. McVey was retired from the Washington County School System but had previously worked at People Incorporated, Emory & Henry College, and the Glenrochie Country Club. J.W. farmed for many years and was of the Baptist Faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bradley Wolfe and Nancy Morrison McVey; infant son, David Bradley McVey; sister, Beulah Bellamy; and three brothers, R.C. McVey, Bradley Wolfe "Buster" McVey, Jr., and Lester Parris.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia June McVey; one son, James Eddie (Debra) McVey of Abingdon, VA; two daughters, Janet (Mike) Martin of Abingdon, VA and Sue (late husband Randall) Evans of Saltville, VA; two sisters, Ella Campbell and Husband Bob Davenport of Abingdon, VA and Helen (Marvin) Casey of Abingdon, VA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hall of Waynesboro, VA; four grandchildren, Michael (Hope) Martin, Jason Martin, Todd (Cassandra) McVey and Christopher McVey; step grandchildren, Lisa (Chad) McGlocklin and Jennifer (James) McGlocklin; Poppies great-granddaughter, Kiera Martin, and other great-grandchildren, Hunter McVey and Jaelyn McVey; step great-grandchildren, Christopher, Miranda, Andrew, Shawn, Matthew and Issac McGlocklin; special caregivers, Debbie Earls and Melissa Widener; loyal companion, dog, Phippi.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Floyd Nelson officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Washington County Life Saving Crew, 237 Park Street, SE, Abingdon, VA, 24210, in Mr. McVey's name.
