Abingdon, VA – Jane Wingo Blevins, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her home. She was born to the late Moody Thompson Wingo and Meda Belle Witten Wingo on March 4, 1934 in Mercer County, WV. She was a graduate of Tennessee High School, where she was a cheerleader, and continued her education at Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She began her career in nursing at Holston Valley Medical Center before returning to Johnston Memorial Hospital. During her time at Johnston Memorial Hospital she served as Head Nurse and founded the Outpatient Surgery Department. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren and family, going to the beach, traveling, and shopping. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Billie Howard Blevins; and caretaker, Gaylene Reynolds. She is survived by her son, Eddie Bowen and wife Rhonda of Christiansburg, VA; daughter, Tam Smith and husband Matt of Abingdon, VA; three grandchildren, Lauren Hand, Richard Bowen, and Hannah Moore; and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Yuri, and Brady. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5th at the Forest Hills Chapel with Pastor Tim Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Jerry Blevins, Richard Bowen, Jim Fern, Lance Moore, Roger Prevento, Matt Smith, and Roger Sturgill will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Blevins’ caretakers Violet Reynolds, Pam Belcher, Richard Bowen, Lake Collins, and Peggy Turner will serve as honorary pallbearers.
