Raleigh, N.C. Janet Nutter DeBord, 79, of Raleigh, N.C. and formerly of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Sunrise at North Hills. She was one of five children born to the late Edward M. Nutter and Mary Prater “Exie” Nutter on February 22, 1936 in Saltville, Va. She was a graduate of Saltville High School, Emory and Henry College, and the University of Virginia. An educator by profession, Janet taught at Glade Spring Elementary and Watauga Elementary for a combined total of 28 years. She was a member of Rich Valley United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack O. DeBord, and her brother, Richard Nutter of Saltville. Janet is survived by her son, Dennis DeBord and wife Glenda of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Malcom Nutter of Cleveland, Tenn. and Harold “Jim” Nutter of Galax, Va.; and sister, Mary McFarlane of Abingdon, Va. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Larry Linkous officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
