Janice Rowena Barrett

January 10, 1931 — December 22, 2024

Abingdon VA

Janice Rowena Barrett, a beloved homemaker, was born on January 10, 1931 to A.T. and Gertrude Street. She went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to warm the hearts of those who knew her.

Janice devoted her life to her family, creating a nurturing home filled with laughter, love, and warmth. She was a wonderful mother to her four children: Gary Allen Barrett (widow, Nancy), Eddie Lee Barrett (wife, Darlene), Stephen Douglas Barrett (wife, Bethany) and Sandra Kay Taylor (husband, Michael). Her deep affection for her family extended to her grandchildren - Vickie, Amy, Nathan, Michelle, Benjamin, and Nicole who were blessed to have her as a guiding light in their lives. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart and she took immense joy in watching them grow and flourish. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Cameron, James, Kasen, and Georgia.

In addition to her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, Janice had a rich tapestry of interests that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a passion for gardening, cultivating beautiful blooms and lush greenery that brightened her surroundings. This love for nature mirrored her nurturing spirit, as she tended not only to her plants but also to her loved ones. When she wasn’t in the garden, Janice could be found lost in a good book, appreciating the countless stories and adventures within the pages. Her favorite trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee created lasting memories, filled with family fun and joyous laughter.

Janice now joins her beloved husband, Benjamin Franklin Barrett, Jr., along with her predeceased son, Gary Allen Barrett. She is also reunited with her sisters, Jean Nelson and Louise Glover; her brothers, Leon, Edwin, and Louis Gerald Street; and her daughter-in-law, Darlene Barrett. Each of them held a special place in her heart and contributed to the unique person she was.
