J.C. "Jake" Wise

Abingdon, VA- J.C. “Jake” Wise, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Campbell Wise and Lula Belle Gobble Wise on March 11, 1936. He will always be remembered as a well-loved father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ellen Mabe Wise; brother, Maynard Wise; and two sisters, Ruby Tignor and Retha Mae Scott. He is survived by three sons, Ricky (Anita) Wise, Randall Wise, and Timothy (Melissa) Wise; daughter, Joyce (Jim) Penson; four brothers, Mike (Lois) Wise, Jimmy (Joanne) Wise, Bobby (Sandra) Wise, Richard (Phyllis) Wise; five sisters, Irene (J.C.) Scott, Peggy (Kermit) Pickle, Doris Testerman, Sue (Nick) Nickels, and Shirley (Carl) Dale; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6th at the funeral home with the Reverend John Price officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Methodist Cemetery where pallbearers will be selected from grandsons. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carol Lockhart and her mother, Dorothy, for the loving companionship shown to J.C. during the last chapter of his life.
