Jeffery Lynn Scott, affectionately known as Jeff, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, in Abingdon, Virginia, at the age of 73. Born on May 1, 1951 in Bristol, Virginia, Jeff spent his life creating lasting memories and meaningful connections with those around him.
A dedicated employee, Jeff worked for United Telephone Company, which later became Sprint, serving as a lineman for over 20 years. His commitment and work ethic were admired by his colleagues and contributed to the success of the company and the satisfaction of its customers.
Jeff received his education at John S. Battle High School and continued his studies at Washington County Technical School, where he completed his electrical certification. This foundation equipped him for a successful career and allowed him to apply his skills in meaningful ways throughout his life.
Known for his kind and welcoming personality, Jeff had a unique ability to make everyone feel at ease. His generosity and warmth resonated with family, friends, and acquaintances alike. He enjoyed participating in car shows and was a proud member of the Crusin' Classics Car Club, where he formed special friendships with Mike Arnold, Dave Eastridge, and many other automotive enthusiasts.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, James Campbell Scott and Pauline Esther Stout Scott; two sisters, Sharon Scott and Jennifer Browning; one brother, Tony Scott; brothers-in-law John Browning and Tommy Scott; and nephew William "Tiger" Shortt.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Kay Scott; two daughters, Angie Scott Osborne and her husband, T.J., and Kim Scott Jones and her husband, Billy; grandchildren Kaylynn Osborne, Jaimie Hale, Hannah Osborne, Megan Moore, Dayton Scott Osborne, Lindsey Deel, and Carter Jones; as well as great-grandchildren Amiyah Osborne, Rylee Moore, and Winnick Hale. Jeff also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will cherish the memories they shared with him.
A graveside service to honor Jeff's life will be held on October 30, 2024 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia. The service will begin at 2:00 PM with Paul Price officiating. Pallbearers will be Johnny Weddle, (Lil) Don Green, Dave Eastridge, Dickie Kiser, Jerry Keene and Mike Arnold. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crusin' Classics Car Club.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
