Abingdon, VA – Jerrell L. Clifton, age 73, passed on Thursday, February 1, 2018, in Pikeville Medical Center. Jerrell was born and raised in Oakwood, Va. where he later became co-owner of Clifton’s Country Store. He coached Little League Baseball for several years and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing bluegrass music.
Jerrell is preceded in death by his parents, John Andrew and Stella Keen Clifton; grandsons, Christopher and Zachary Clifton; brother, Andrew Shortt; sister, Jean Davis; and daughter-in-law, Kelly Clifton.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Boyd Clifton; three sons, Morgan Clifton of Abingdon, Va., Leonard Clifton and wife Elizabeth Lynn of Avon, Ohio, and Leslie Clifton and wife Rubin of Abingdon; brother, Guster Clifton and wife Darva of Oakwood, Va.; sister, Delcia Alderson of Roanoke, Va.; grandchildren, Joseph Clifton, Nash Clifton, Jax Clifton, Lauren Clifton, Demi Smith, and Kayla Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Morgan Clifton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Va. where Scott Davis, Rett Clifton, and the sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to convene at the cemetery before 2:30 p.m. as there will be no procession.
