Abingdon, Va. – Jerry Lee Wright, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Christian Care Center of Bristol. He was born in Washington County, Virginia on September 22, 1946. He was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and lived in Washington County most of his life.
Jerry proudly served his country with the United States Army before beginning his career as a truck driver. He spent his last 15 years before retirement driving for ABF Freight System.
He was an avid train enthusiast and also enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Norfolk & Western Railroad Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 25 years, Rita Roark Wright; and his brother, Bobby Wright.
He is survived by two sons, Cody, and J.B.; daughter, Gidget; stepson, Michael Shane; and special nephew and childhood friend, Bobby Mullins.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, May 7, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service (19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210). A funeral service will follow 2:00 PM, with Pastor Jerry Eggers officiating. The committal will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens (19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210), with military honors provided by the U.S. Army National Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
