Mrs. Jewell D. Montgomery, 78, died Sunday, February 06, 2011 at her home.
She was a member of South Chapel Baptist Church. She loved reading her Bible, word search puzzles, watching TV, taking care of her grandchildren. She was a former owner of Montgomery & Sons Minnow farm and grocery and worked for Gordon Garments for a number of years. Mrs. Montgomery was a devoted Christian lady and prayer warrior. She also enjoyed cooking and cleaning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Margaret Rutherford; her daughter, Brenda Lewis Robins; her brothers: Jimmy and Don Rutherford and her son-in-law: Roy Baumgardner.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lewis Montgomery; 2 sons: Robert Montgomery (Pat) and Daryl "Gabby" Montgomery (Karla) all of Bristol, TN; 4 daughters: Janie Baumgardner Roberts (Ed), Darlene Baumgardner (Bobby), Sandy Mitchell and companion: Mike Blevins all of Bristol, TN, Sherry Gail Lawson (Ray) of Powell, TN A son-in-law: Richard Robins of Abingdon, VA; 1 brother: Richard "Dowdy" Rutherford, Bristol, TN;
3 sisters: Ruth Hall (Ron), Goldie "Tiny" Widener and Joyce Price all of Bristol, TN; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Amedisys Home Health, Kingsport Hospice, Floyd and Carolyn Nelson and a special cousin: Sara Marie Hawn.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jewell Dean Montgomery will be held at 2 PM Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Farris Funeral Chapel, East Main St., Abingdon, VA with Pastor Floyd Nelson, Pastor Mike Norris and Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. Burial will follow in the Montgomery Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 PM on Wednesday at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, Abingdon, VA
