Jewell Dunn Davis passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 6, 2012. She was born January 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Callie Atwell Dunn. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Ellis and Ewell Dunn and one sister, Christine Dunn Ogle. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Thomas B. Davis, Sr.
Mrs. Davis was one of 18 graduates of Greendale High School, Class of 1938. She graduated from Johnson Business School in Johnson City, TN. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, but also a professional business woman. She retired from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry as the purchasing agent, the first female executive of the company.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Barton Davis, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Bristol TN, John Davis and his wife, Phyllis of Bristol, TN; one daughter, Barbara A. Davis of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren, Kip Davis, Tonya Scott, Sam Rowland, Jr., Amy Mullins and Beth Crouch; ten great grandchildren, Sam Rowland III, Dylan Mullins, Connor Mullins, Hailey Crouch, Carson Crouch, Matthew Davis, Ryan Davis, Miles Davis, Cameron Ritter, and Chloe Ritter; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Davis will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012 at First Christian Church, 185 Old Jonesboro Rd, Abingdon, VA with Minister Tom Crise officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon with Minister Tom Crise and Minister Howard Taylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Tom & Jewell Davis Youth Fund, 185 Old Jonesboro Rd., Abingdon, VA 24210.
