Jimmie Lee Countiss, age 84, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born on October, 22, 1929 in Honaker, VA. The family later relocated to Abingdon, VA where Jimmie attended William King High School and Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1955 with a degree in Engineering and has remained a loyal Hokie fan. He was employed by the Virginia Highway Department, Sperry, and retired from Ratheon. He enjoyed traveling across the country in his motor home alongside his wife, Lovis. His love of travel also led him to visit several foreign countries. He was a longtime amateur radio operator and also collected cameras. He was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church.
As the last surviving member of his immediate family, Jimmie was also preceded in death by his parents, Arthur A. Countiss, Sr. and Lake Neel Countiss; brother, Arthur A. Countiss, Jr.; and sister, Vivian Stallard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lovis Countiss; five nephews; and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Abingdon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sherry Boles and the Reverend Robert Countiss officiating. Visitation will be held following the memorial service until 4:00 p.m., Saturday at the church.
