Abingdon, VA – Jimmy Preston Hardwick, age 85, passed on Monday, November 1, 2021, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. Jim was a lifelong resident of Abingdon and a graduate of William King High School. He was and employee of American Electric Power for 39 years and a life-long farmer, of which he was still enjoying just a few days prior to passing. Jim was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Dale and Mary Alice Jones Hardwick, and son, Timothy Wayne Hardwick.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sylvia Burnside Hardwick; son, Glenn Alan Hardwick and wife Lisa of Abingdon, VA; sister, Pasty Shelly and husband Frank of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Megan Marie Whitman, Erin Michelle Yates, and Mandy Lynn Dorton; great grandchildren, Tucker, Parker, Ellie, and Colt; niece, Becky Shelly; and great aunt, Mildred Hardwick Kestner and husband Charlie.
Visitation with the family will be held 2-3 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Findley officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
