Jimmy Wilton Ashley, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He owned and operated several businesses and mastered many trades; most famously, The Cherokee Restaurant and Motel with his wife, Kimberly, for 26 years. He was a fan of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and was an automobile enthusiast having completely restored numerous American Classic Cars.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilton Henry Ashley; and first wife, Peggy Shumate Ashley.
He is survived by mother, Janet Hayes Ashley of Abingdon, VA; his loving wife of 26 years, Kimberly Kay Kolling Ashley; three daughters, Tammy Boggs of Chantilly, VA, Heather Ashley of Richmond, VA, and Crystal Brooke Ashley of the home; three brothers, Roger L. Ashley of Whitetop, VA, Tommy D. Ashley of Ypsilanti, MI, and Ronnie D. Ashley of Abingdon, VA; two sisters, Peggy Giokaris of MO and Lisa Ann Ashley of Abingdon, VA.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor John Stapleton officiating. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to convene by 2:00p.m., Sunday at Blevins Cemetery off Whitetop Gap Road where Chris Ashley, Mark Powers, Billy Davis, Jerry Hayes, Harold "Barber" Wilcox, and Dwayne Cullop will serve as pallbearers. The Ashley brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
