Joe Hunter Thompson

Bristol, VA – Joe Hunter Thompson, age 62, passed on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at his home.  Joe was a graduate of John S. Battle High School and an employee of the Abingdon Kroger for over 40 years.  He was a car enthusiast who owned many sports cars including his 2015, Corvette.  Joe enjoyed darts, bowling, and the beach.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R. and Peggy Franklin Thompson, and father-in-law, William Lee Coalson.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cindy Thompson; daughter, Ashley Renee Thompson of New York; sister, Theresa Thompson of Missouri; grandson, Andrew Moxham of Virginia; mother-in-law, Eleanor Coalson; aunt, Ada Tidman of Texas; brother-in-law, Stephen Coalson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Forest Hills location of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA.
