John Benjamin Mink "Ben", age 27, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Ben was a 2003 Graduate of Virginia High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Iraq. After his discharge from the military, Ben attended the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, SC. He loved to play golf and show off his Chrysler 300E. He was an avid Pittsburg Steeler fan.
Ben is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Nelda Duncan; as well as his aunt, Kathleen Willis.
He leaves behind his parents, Curtis Mink and wife Tina of Abingdon, VA and Robin Garnand and husband John of Abingdon, VA; paternal grandparents, Joyce and Frank Mink of Abingdon, VA; brothers, Eric Garnand, Scott Garnand, and Chris Blevins, Jr.; sister, Emily Blevins; and nephew, Caden Blevins. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and was also a beloved nephew and cousin.
Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where Ben's great uncle, Wendell Boggs, will deliver the eulogy. Military Honors will be presented by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Trevor Bennett, Chris Blevins, Jr., Eric Garnand, Scott Garnand, Eric Roach, and Landon Stringfellow.
According to his wishes Ben was an organ donor.
