John C. Owens

Abingdon, VA John Cidric Owens, age 38, of Abingdon, VA and formerly of Grundy, VA, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born October 1, 1977 in Pikeville, Ky to Kim Owens and the late Harry Owens. He was an avid sports fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies, the Los Angeles Lakers, and Washington Redskins. He enjoyed attending Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen Concerts.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by is maternal grandparents, Elmer and Iris McClanahan, and paternal grandparents, Freeman and Ester Owens.

He is survived by his mother, Kim Owens of Abingdon, VA; brother, Luke Owens and wife Angela of Wise, VA; uncles, Jerry Owens and wife Patricia of Madison, MS and Keith McClanahan and wife Deena of Richlands, NC; aunt Karen Yates and husband John Allen Yates of Franklinton, NC; cousins, Adam Yates, Amanda Atkins, Matthew Owens; and life long friend, Kevin Christian.

Visitation with the family will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Vansant Church of Christ, 1383 Lovers Gap Road, Vansant, Va 24656. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with Mike Rife officiating.
