Abingdon, VA – John Clarence Miller, Jr., age 74, passed on Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home. John was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Bristol Compressor’s after 30 years of employment. He was also a member of Trigg Street Church of God. John is preceded in death by his parents, John Clarence Miller, Sr. and Kay Cornette Miller, and sister, Nancy Sue Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Miller; son, John Christopher Miller and wife Kim of Pooler, GA; daughters, Wendy Cosentino and husband Michael of Vernon Hills, IL, and Bethany Rigney of Tullahoma, TN; step sons, Jody McGinnis of Meadowview, VA and Gary McGinnis of Glade Spring, VA; sisters, Joyce Bridgeman of Bristol, VA and Dean Crouse of Chilhowie, VA; and grandchildren, Trevor Rigney, Amber Rigney, John C. Miller, Mason McGinnis, and Nick McGinnis.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Vaughan and Pastor Wayne Chant officiating. A cryptside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum with Tom Brown, Doug Sullins, Mason McGinnis, Matt Owens, Tim Evans, and Brian Barrett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Cosentino, Jody McGinnis, Gary McGinnis, Jim Grace, and Fred Parker. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Those wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:35 a.m.
