Abingdon, VA- John Douglas Moore, age 72, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at his home with his wife, Pat, by his side following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born to the late Joseph Albert Moore and Violet Smith Moore on July 12, 1942 in Shrewsbury, WV. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Forrestal. He was a faithful member of Blackwell Chapel United Methodist Church. In the years following his retirement from Appalachian Power Company, John enjoyed traveling, Southern Gospel music, NASCAR racing, Civil War history, and volunteering at the Barter Theater. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Scott “Pat” Moore; brother, Joe Moore and wife Becky of Rich Creek, VA; two sisters, Anne Thompson of Springfield, TN and Nancy McCarty and husband John of Hanover, PA; several nieces and nephews; and his furry loyal companions, Little Levi, Vivien Lee, and Laci Lee. A private cryptside service will be held in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Scott Spence officiating. The family requests no flowers or memorials.
