John Frazier Jones, Jr., age 91, of Abingdon, Va. and formerly of Grundy, Va., passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at his home. He was born December 6, 1923, in Benham, Ky. to the late John Frazier Jones, Sr. and Mary Stella McCarty Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Layuna Stiltner Jones; son, Jimmy W. Jones; daughter, Belinda “Tootsie” Thomas; brother, William “Bill” Jones; two sisters, Wanda Stiltner and Pauline Malone; grandson, Kevin Branham; granddaughter, Kelly Clifton; and great grandson, Zachary Clifton. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Jones; daughter, Mary Ann (Ervin) Stiltner of Abingdon, VA; three sons: Jack (Grace) Jones of Grundy, Va.; Jeff (Connie) Jones of Abingdon, Va.; and Jerry (Vicky) Jones of Grundy, Va.; step-daughter, Lucy (Kent) Coleman of Johnson City, Tenn.; son-in-law, John Thomas of Grundy, Va.; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two nephews; and special friend and fishing buddy, Mark Hollinhead of Crestview, Fla. John was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ in Abingdon, Va., served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, was employed at Harman Mining Company in Grundy, Va. as a foreman, was a retired Virginia State Mine Inspector, owner and operator of Jones TV Cable Company, a past president and member of the Buchanan-Dickenson County Shrine, a lifetime member of the Kazim Shrine, an associate member of the Jericho Shrine, a member of the Scottish Rite, a 32nd degree Mason at the Sandy Valley Lodge in Grundy, Va., a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Abingdon, Va., and a member of the Abingdon Senior Citizens. Throughout the years, John enjoyed hunting and fishing, flying his own airplane, spending time with his family at his cabin in Bland County, playing golf, and dancing; however, his favorite pastime was spending many winters in Okeechobee, Fla. fishing on Lake Okeechobee. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Masonic Funeral Rites will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by the brethren of the Abingdon Lodge No. 48 with a traditional funeral ceremony to follow with Minister Ron Musick officiating. A second visitation will be from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home in Grundy, Va. with a graveside service to follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, Va. with Evangelist Mike Rife officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy, Jason, Tom, Chris and John Robert Jones, Jody and Chad Thomas, and Keith Stiltner. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Anderson, Bob Steele, Eugene Altizer, Fred Hawkins, Dennis Ramey, Mike Hackney, Gary Tackett, Wallace Smith, and Joe Sturm.
