Sgt. John G. Wolfe, age 61, passed suddenly on Monday, December 23, 2013, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. John lived his whole life in Washington County and was a police officer with the Abingdon Police Department for 26 years.
Mr. Wolfe was a wonderful father and loved spending time with his grandchildren whom were the joy of his life. He earned an Associate's Degree from Virginia Highlands Community College and a Bachelors Degree in Art Education from Virginia Intermont College. John loved painting, drawing, wood burning, bicycling, camping, and riding his motorcycle.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John D. Wolfe and Mary Camper Wolfe.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Jessica Wolfe of Columbia, SC and Janelle Webb and husband Lynn Webb, Jr. of Weaverville, NC; the mother of his children, Denise Wolfe of Abingdon, VA; brother, Danny Wolfe of Abingdon, VA; sister, Debbie Wolfe of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Lynn "Tres" Webb, III, and Gabriel Webb of Weaverville, NC; and niece, Alison Buchanan of Abingdon, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Danny Wolfe and the men and women of the Abingdon Police Dept. serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie McCracken, Wayne Hayter, Larry Vanhoose, and Eddie Wolfe.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
