John Harvey Ray, Sr., age 90, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Shenandoah House in Fishersville, VA.
He was born in Russell County, VA on November 19, 1921, to the late Lon Guy Ray and Tishia Whitehead Ray. John served in the United States Army during World War II and had worked as a farmer. He was preceded in by his wife, Lula Mae Ray.
John is survived by one son, John H. Ray, Jr. of Spottswood, VA; three daughters, Edith Lotts of Christiansburg, Judy Foley of New Hope, VA, and Linda King of Grottoes, VA; two brothers, Clyde Ray of Glade Spring, and Henry Ray of Meadowview; two sisters, Patsy Ray of Lebanon, VA, and Bessie Hess of Glade Spring; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Glade Spring Church of God with Pastor James Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
