John (JB) Berkely Holloway

Abingdon, Va. John Berkely (JB) Holloway, 73, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015, at Abingdon Health and Rehab after a long illness of heart disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Berkely and Thelma Billie Holloway of Broadford, Virginia, and his sister Vickie McCall of Abingdon. He was born on January 5, 1943 in Saltville, VA. He is survived by his sister Mary Margaret Campbell and her husband, Tom, of Williamsburg, Va.; his nephews Thomas Campbell, wife Anna, and children Emma and Ian (Marietta, Ga.), Kevin McCall and wife Kim (Davidson, N.C.); his nieces; Gwen McCall (Abingdon, Va.) and Courtney Southwell and daughters Anna and Cate (Holly Springs, N.C.); and his brother-in-law Phil McCall and wife Lisa of Abingdon. His cousins include Susan and Terri Sanders, John E.B. and Kimberly Clark (Saltville, Va.); Ann Carter (Christiansburg,Va.) and William and Carol Roberts (Rocky Mount, Va.). He is also survived by the pets he loved, Lulu and Lola. John earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia and a Master's Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He worked for 22 years for the Virginia Department for the Visually Handicapped. Following retirement, he worked for many years with District Three Senior Services providing support and assistance for senior citizens. John received numerous recognition and performance awards for developing opportunities for helping others. In addition, John received the President's Volunteer Services Award from President George W. Bush's Council on Service and Participation for services to others that demonstrated the outstanding character of America. A memorial service of John's life will be held at at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Washington Chapel Church, 25221 Walden Rd., Abingdon, Va. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the SPCA.
