John Joseph Kealey, Jr., age 78, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2019 at the home he shared with his wife, Sandra G. Kealey in Bristol, VA.
Mr. Kealey was born in Roanoke, VA on March 9th, 1941 to the late John J. Kealey Sr. and Katherine Kealey. He moved with his wife and three children to Abingdon, VA in 1971. Mr. Kealey was very active in the community; he was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He supported the Abingdon little league baseball program and was a member of the Abingdon Jaycees, the Abingdon Rotary Club, and a former member of the Lions Club. He was a charter member the Washington County Rotary Club and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition by this organization. Mr. Kealey will be best remembered as the owner of Kealey-Johnson Wholesale Florist and greenhouses in Abingdon and as president of the Roses Incorporated – a national association of rose growers. He was a member of the Glenrochie Country Club for many years and will also be remembered for his love of golf.
John was a devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Margaret Craig and Kathleen Hartman Bowles and his son, Jeffrey Scott Kealey. He is survived by his wife and two children Robyn Kealey and Mike Kealey, and his grandsons Egan Kealey and Lane Kealey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A warm and sincere thank you to many of John’s friends for their support during his long battle with illness after surviving cancer. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Handy and the staff of Home Nursing Company and Hospice.
To celebrate John’s life, a reception and memorial service will be held at Farris Funeral Service on Main Street in Abingdon, VA on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Please join the family for a reception of family and friends at 4:00 p.m., memorial services to begin at 5:00 p.m. In honor of John’s love of flowers, floral arrangements are welcomed.
