John Bryan LeGwin

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Bryan LeGwin on April 6, 2024 in Saltville, VA. He was born March 20, 1953, in Grand Rapids, MI to John B and Marjorie (Thomas) LeGwin.

Bryan was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Thomas Chubinski.

Bryan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan LeGwin of Saltville, his son, Jay B. LeGwin of Omaha, Nebraska and daughter Samantha C. LeGwin of Lansing, Michigan.

Bryan's education was extensive. He had over 30 schools while enlisted in the Navy. He also holds Associate Degrees in Geology, Math and Chemistry. A Bachelors Degree in Telecommunication Technology. He has extensive post graduate work at the Masters Degree level in Telecommunications Law and Micro Satellite Technology. Bryan was awarded Doctorate Degree of Criminal Science on August 14, 2006.  

He was in the US Navy, stationed on the USS Bluefish, SSN 675, a fast attack nuclear submarine as a radio operator for the majority of his career. After the Navy he wore many hats, but the most fascinating was as a Research Analyst using satellite imaging technology to help others.

Bryan had many passions, one of which was traveling. He and his wife lived aboard their sailboat "Quintessa" traveling the eastern coast. They then moved to an RV for more land adventures, before settling down in Virginia. 

He enjoyed woodworking, repairing/refurbishing Grandfather clocks and church furniture, as well as creating many unique items. He enjoyed fishing and just sitting by a campfire gazing at the stars.  

A memorial service is planned for May 1, 2024 at 2:00pm, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA.
