John Randolph Robinson II, age 80, a lifelong resident of Glade Spring, VA passed away on November 4, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late, Mahlon L. Robinson and Bess McCall Robinson. After graduating from Emory and Henry College in 1955 with a degree in Economics, he served in the United States Army as a Sargent. In November of 1961, he married Peggy Lester, and they began a family and a career in farming. He then worked as a Rural Letter Carrier for 28 years. He was a charter member of the Virginia Highlands Community College Board and a member of the Washington County Industrial Development Board. Because he wished to create more jobs for Washington County, he agreed to sell his farm for use as the Highlands Industrial Park. A life-long member of the Old Glade Presbyterian Church, he served as Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He was also Trustee of the Old Glade Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Howe and Sarah Fitzgerald.

In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, he leaves behind his three devoted children: Patricia Robinson Capparelli "Trish" and husband, Mike, of Sykesville, MD; John Randolph Robinson III "Jay" and wife, Anita; and Joseph Mahlon Robinson "Joe", all of Glade Spring, VA. He is also survived by five adoring grandchildren, Kelsey Ann and Michael John Capparelli, Elizabeth Grey, Mahlon Lauren and Catherine Olivia "Catie" Robinson; two sisters, Ora Elena Bonham of Chilhowie, VA and Gene Cole of Abingdon, VA; many sister and brother in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Robinson will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Old Glade Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8th at the church with the Reverend Timothy Bird officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery where nephews of Mr. Robinson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Presbyterian Men, Dr. William E. Cline and Mr. L. Ted Lester.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in his memory to the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 33234 Lee Highway, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
