John David Rash, Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend.
John D. Rash, a devoted family man and longtime Washington, D.C. transit operator, passed away April 9th, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Known for his deep love of the outdoors, John found peace and joy on the water—fishing, jet skiing, camping, and especially boating. In his younger days, he was an avid water-skier, always up for an adventure. He was an U.S. Army veteran.
John was a man of strong character, a provider, and someone whose quiet strength supported his family through every season of life. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend—always making time to play cards, watch old westerns, or tune into classic country music. His favorite thing to do was spend time with family.
He proudly worked for Metro Transit for 30 years, driving both buses and subway trains across Washington, D.C., before retiring in 2000. Even in retirement, he stayed active and connected, spending time with family, friends, and following his favorite sports teams—the Washington Redskins and the Washington Nationals.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Rash of 49 years; his parents, Emmett and Clara Rash; and siblings, Hazel Fleming, Frances Rash, Charles Rash, Earl Rash, Emmett “Jr.” Rash, and Jack Rash.
