Abingdon, VA – John William Daniels, Jr., age 75, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in Holston Valley Medical Center. Mr. Daniels was a resident of Norton, VA before moving to Abingdon in 1975 and retired after 35 years of employment from the State of Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.
John was a very active and respected member of the Abingdon Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, assisted with the Children’s Music Ministry, and was a member of the Hearts of Gold Choir.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. Daniels, Sr. and Myrtle Stidham Daniels; brothers, Charlie and Jim Daniels; and sisters, Hope Begley, Gladys Begley, and Hazel Watts. John is survived by his wife, Judy Breeding Daniels; son, John W. Daniels, III and wife Melinda of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Jill Dorann Daniels Thompson and husband Richard of Brazil; brother, Tom Daniels and wife Mary Sue of Norton, VA; sisters, Evelyn Cassell of Atlanta, GA, Norma Jean Wilson and husband Milton of Jasper, GA, and Mildred Bentley and husband Jack of Pound, VA; grandchildren, Erin Daniels and wife Bridget, Jay Daniels, and Miranda David and husband Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews; and Granny Lydia Collins.
Visitation with the family will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Abingdon Baptist Church. A celebration of life will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. John W. Daniels, III and Rev. Richard Thompson officiating. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting
