Johnny Ray Childress

Johnny Ray Childress, age 56, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Johnny was a 1985 graduate of Grundy High School. He and his family moved to Abingdon shortly after his graduation that year. Johnny was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Elsie Looney, and paternal grandparents, Rufus and Irene Childress.

He is survived by his parents, John Wayne Childress and Patricia Yvonne Looney Childress of Abingdon, VA; son, Johnny Lee Childress of Abingdon, VA; brother, Chad Childress and wife Shawna of Meadowview, VA; nieces and nephews, Ashley Humphrey and husband, Dakota of Glade Spring, VA; Kailey Childress, and Ben Childress, both of Meadowview, VA; and great nephew, Tate Humphrey of Glade Spring, VA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
