Mr. Joseph Fletcher Odum, age 83, passed away on Monday October 13, 2014 in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Odum was a lifelong resident of Washington County VA and was a member of the Abingdon First Church of God. He had worked for the Pet Milk Company, and many people knew him as a school bus driver for over 30 years. He was the owner of Odum’s Trailer Park. Mr. Odum served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he rose to the rank of sergeant. He loved hunting and most of all, spending time with his family. Mr. Odum was predeceased by his parents James Edward and Virgie Moore Odum; brother Ray Odum; and sister Annie Phaup; brothers-in-law Theodore McElyea and Jack Logan. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Joyce Walls Odum of the home; precious son Joseph “Buck” Odum Of Meadowview, VA; step-daughter Missy Davenport and husband Erik of Meadowview, VA; step-granddaughter Zoe; and sisters Ruby Odum and Blanche McElyea of both of Abingdon, and Grace Logan of Knoxville, TN. The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Thursday October 16, 2014 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob Neace officiating. Interment will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park, where pallbearers will be Michael Odum, Brandon Tenney, C.D. Kestner, Wayne Davenport, Paul Clark and Bill Mink. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the Abingdon First Church of God,Basil Tenney, Darrell Groseclose and Bob Hamilton.
