Born on December 25, 1932, in Wikel Union, WV to the late Christopher Thomas Riner and Anna Rebecca Canterberry Riner. Joseph's life was filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering faith.

Joseph's career spanned over three decades at Clark-Schwebel, where he excelled as the head machine operator. His commitment and expertise were highly regarded by his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Joseph found solace and tranquility in various hobbies. He had a deep appreciation for nature and thoroughly enjoyed spending time outdoors. Fishing was one of his greatest passions; casting his line into the water brought him immense joy and allowed him to connect with the serenity of the natural world. In addition to fishing, Joseph delighted in observing wildlife, particularly deer and wild turkeys. The beauty of these creatures captivated him and provided moments of reflection and awe.

When he wasn't immersed in nature, Joseph found fulfillment in another set of hobbies. His collection was a testament to his curiosity about history and his appreciation for ancient cultures. Additionally, Joseph loved working with timber and honed his skills as a timber cutter over the years. It was a physically demanding job that required precision and attention to detail.

However, Joseph's true pride and source of happiness lay within his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Effie Josephine Broyles Riner, one son, Steven Riner (Elizabeth), four daughters, Cathy Johnson (Bill), Rebecca Bradshaw (Patrick), Susie Dillard (Gene), and Tammy Buchanan; two grandchildren, Jeremy Goodin (Misty), Jennifer Minton (Josh), four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Carson Goodin; 10 step great-grandchilden; several nieces and nephews

Joseph's abiding faith guided him throughout his journey in life. He was devoted to the Lord and found solace and strength in His love. His unwavering belief granted him peace and serenity even during difficult times. He was a member of Southview Baptist Church in Statesville NC. The legacy of faith he leaves behind remains an inspiration to all who knew him.
