Joe Moore passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018, at Bristol Regional Medical. Although Joe was encumbered by cancer for the past two years, his determination to live life on his terms with enthusiasm, grace and grit will always be admired and remembered by his family and friends. Especially, his faithful dog, Waylon, who benefitted from Joe’s love of hiking and music more than anyone.Joe’s generous smile, quick wit, true interest of others and curiosity of all things will be missed by everyone who ever came in contact with him.
He is survived by his sister, Anita Moore Thiel of Williamsburg, Va.; nieces, Lisa Gehm, Kathryn Bell, Johanna Byrnes, Kristin Chisman, and Molly Taylor; nephew, Mathew Thiel, along with 11 great nieces and nephews.Joe Moore was born on June 1, 1948, in Richmond, Va. to the late James Russell Moore and Leona Greer Moore.
Joe graduated from Abingdon High School in 1967 and then received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1971. Joe was an excellent business man for 36 years in Bristol. He started his own business, Budget Office Furniture in 1982 located in Bristol, Tenn. Then in 1983 he moved the business to its current location in Bristol, Va. He was very successful in the Tri-Cities and expanded his territory into the surrounding markets of Southwest Va., Northeast Tenn. and Western North Carolina. Joe had a witty sense of humor and it showed in the quotes that he placed on the B.O.F. marquee that drew attention to his business. He was a very kind and caring friend to his employees at Budget Office Furniture. He will be greatly missed as they honor his request for them to continue his business legacy.In Joe’s free time, he loved to travel, hike and spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan especially of college football and watching his alma mater Virginia Tech. He generously supported many of the area non-profit agencies, especially the Boys and Girls Club of Bristol, YMCA and Healing Hands. Joe loved music and was an original supporter of the Birthplace of Country Music and Bristol Rhythm and Roots. He enjoyed attending the music events with his friends and family.He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
