Josephene Smith Johnsey, Ph.D., 77, passed on Monday, July 23, 2018, in Valley Health Care Center. Josephene was raised in Jasper, Ala. and lived in several areas of the country before moving to Glade Spring in 1977. She attended many universities and earned nine doctoral degrees. Josephene served as a college professor and gave music lessons for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Clyde Smith and Velma Payne Smith; husband, Harold Johnsey; brother, Benjamin Smith; and an infant sister, Janice.
Josephene is survived by her sons, Victor Johnsey and wife Bunny of Marion, Va., and Randy Johnsey of Glade Spring, Va.; brother, Mike Smith and wife Glenda of Jasper, Ala.; two sisters, Margaret Chambless and husband Caroll of Jasper, Ala., and Irene Spears of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandchildren, Allen Johnsey and wife C.C., and Daniel Johnsey, all of Marion, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Caedmon, Mia, Ry’Lee, and Abigail; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Friday, July 27, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Victor Johnsey officiating. Interment will be held in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
