Joyce Irene Caldwell

Joyce Irene Caldwell, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2023, at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, VA. She was born in Dickenson County, VA to the late Jackson Smith and Irene Kennedy on February 10, 1944.  Joyce loved reading, quilting, gardening, and mowing her lawn. Above all, she loved her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Elmer Caldwell; three sisters, Joann Childs, Ruby Gouge and Rosemary Funk; her brother Delbert Smith and several nephews.  

Survivors include her three children, Mark Caldwell (Edwina), Scott Caldwell (Valeria) and Rebecca Wise (Darryl); seven grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Heather, Morgan, Megan, Mandy and Jacob; four sisters, Susie Salyers (Rex), Carolyn Armstrong (James), Jettie Caldwell (Ronnie) and Faye Mullins and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Saturday, September 23, 2023 with a graveside service following at 2 p.m. with Chad Johnson officiating.  

Pallbearers will be Jacob Caldwell, Morgan Caldwell, David Mullins, Jason Dunn, Spencer Hurst, and Evan Doran.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
