Juanita Joann Yates, Age 97 entered into the welcoming embrace of The Almighty God at her home at The Grand Court in Bristol, VA on 15 March 2013. She was preceded in death by Husband, Marion Henry Yates and two sisters, Margaret and Sally. Surviving are a son, Eddy B. Yates and wife, Linda Sue plus numerous relatives and loving friends.
Born in Honaker, Virginia (Russell County)--Juanita lived a full life and was a lifelong member of The Methodist Church. Living in Johnson City, TN, Chicago, IL and Harlan, KY - the family moved to Abingdon, VA in 1953.
In 1957, she opened Dixie Pottery in Abingdon, VA to "have something to do". As a family business, The Pottery grew to over 100,000 square feet and attracted 1000's of visitors weekly. She greeted each customer and was truly The Matriarch of the business.
Retiring from daily work at age 92, she remained active throughout her later years, traveling to visit friends and family from coast to coast, taking over 20 sea cruises and always excited to join those casino tour groups.
The family thanks Dr. Simon Pennings & RN Ellen, Dr. Sue Prill & RN Shelly and Dr. John Fincher & RN Karen for their professional oversight and caring. Wellmont Hospice provided thoughtful and comforting care in her last days.
A special thanks is owed to her "best friend and caregiver" in life, Kelly Cassidy. She remained at her side as Juanita took her last and most wonderful journey.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Wes Adams, Peter Arnold, Dennis Fields, David Kelley, Howard McDowell, Eugene Osborne, John Rutherford, Doug Scott, Guy Warner, John Van Dyke, and Mike Wilkerson.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, 18 March 2013 followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 P.M. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
A graveside committal will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, 19 March 2013 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210.
