Juanita McVey Hackney, age 85, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born April 23, 1934, to the late John Henry McVey and Bertha Elizabeth DeBusk McVey. She retired from the Washington County School System as cafeteria manager of Holston High School. Juanita was an avid gardener and quilter.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lynch Hackney. She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Hackney Luber and husband, Lawrence, of Kingsport, Tenn. and Elizabeth Hackney and David Brown, of Bristol, Va.; and beloved feline companion, KiKi.
A committal service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Roger Hearl officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Rd., Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018, or Ballad Health Hospice, 509 Med Tech Parkway., Johnson City, TN 37604.
