Judith Lee Judy Silvis, age 72, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, Va. Judy was a native of Buchanan County, Va., and had lived in San Rafael, Cal. for 24 years. She and her family moved to Abingdon 17 years ago, after the death of her husband Hugh. She attended the Episcopal Church and worked in pre-school as an aid for many years. Judy loved to cook; however, she was best known for her kindness, generosity, love of cats, and love of her sisters, with whom she spoke daily. Judy also loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Animal Planet.
In addition to her husband, Judy was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin Newton and Irene Lester. She is survived by two sons, Benjamin Silvis of Abingdon, and Michael Silvis and his wife Chassity of Morganton, NC; grandchildren Justin Silvis and fiancee Dondra Whitaker and their daughter Railey, and Connor Silvis; sisters Margaret Ann Callahan and husband Chris of Ocala, Fla., and Charlotte Viers and husband J.B. of Bluefield, Va; and mother-in-law Helen Silvis, who is 100 years old, of St. Petersburg, Fla.
A memorial service for Judith Lee Judy Silvis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Woodland Hills Christian Church, Abingdon, Va. with Pastor Paul Viers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 7202 Glen Forest Drive, Suite 305, Richmond, VA 23266.
