June Atkins

Abingdon, VA June Atkins, age 98, passed away on Saturday June 27, 2015 at Abingdon Health and Rehab. June had lived in Abingdon since 1997, having moved from Hampton, VA. She retired as a legal secretary to a Federal Judge. June, along with five other women, brought forth the proceedings which established National Secretary’s Day. June was a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, where she was active in church activities and reaching out to others. June Atkins was predeceased by her parents, John and Cora Pickelsiemer Atkins, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by two nieces Mary Alice Gray Nisbet of Abingdon and Bobbie Lively of Richmond, VA; great-nieces Kimmie Miller, Amy Simmons and Ellen Jampole; great-nephews Walter Steve Atkins, Fred Simpson and Jerry Simmons, Jr. Other great nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Monday June 29, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
