June Sutherland Taylor

June Sutherland Taylor, 97, of Bristol, Va., died Oct. 3, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va. Born in Colley, Dickenson County, Va., Mrs. Taylor was the last surviving child of the 14 children of the late Prosper B. and Nancy Violet Sutherland. Her husband of 60 years, Aubra L. Taylor, died in 1997. She was preceded in death by brothers Guy, Corb, Farley, Ralph, Aubrey, Edwin and Larry Sutherland and by sisters Elva Owens and Emma Sutherland. Siblings Ruel, Elsie, Barney and Denny died as youngsters. She also was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Bobby M. Conley and W. Howard Eanes. Mrs. Taylor loved to garden, raise flowers, quilt and run a household that saw relatives coming nearly every week for “Sunday dinner” while her mother lived with them for many years before her death at age 92. In later years, she and her husband loved to travel and enjoyed bluegrass music and participating in activities at Clinchco Senior Center (before their move to Bristol in 1984) and at Slater Center in Bristol, Tenn. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Survivors are two sons and wives, Rod (Shelby) Taylor, Bristol, Tenn., and David (Debbie) Taylor, Salem, Va.; one daughter, Andra Taylor Eanes, Bristol, Va.; nine grandchildren, Terry (Karen) Taylor, Mike (Jenny) Taylor and Amy Taylor, all of Bluff City, Tenn., Jerry (Vivian) Taylor and Tim (Anita) Taylor, both of Blountville, Tenn., Tami Taylor Hutchins, Madison, Tenn., Rod (Regina) Taylor Jr., Bristol, Tenn., Wynsor Taylor, Washington, D.C., and Drew Taylor, Salem, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Gregg (Lauren) Hutchins II, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Taylor Hutchins, Bristol, R.I., Rylie Taylor and Rodney G. Taylor III, both of Bristol, Tenn.; one great-great grandson, Lincoln Hutchins, Murfreesboro. She also was step grand to many, including special great-great grandchildren Timothy and Maddie Flannagan, Blountville. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Beuna (Willie) Davis, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Trulah Taylor, Berea, Ky.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St., Abingdon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the funeral home with Elders Jim O'Quinn and Joe Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Va. Pallbearers will be Jerry, Terry, Tim, Mike, Rod Jr. and Drew Taylor, Gregg Hutchins II and Timothy Flannagan. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Taylor’s memory to Sulphur Spring Primitive Baptist Church, % David Owens, 2208 Osborne St., Bristol, VA 24201.
